Mildred L. Schliep
October 7, 1917 — March 30, 2019
Mildred L. Schliep, age 101 of Zumbrota, passed away March 30, 2019 at the Zumbrota Care Center. The funeral service will be April 3, 2019 at 11:00 at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Pastor Wayne Schoch officiating. Burial will be in the Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before services at the church.
Mildred Lydia Dahling was born October 7, 1917 to Irvin and Lydia Dahling in Featherstone Township, Goodhue County. She married Herbert Schliep of Zumbrota on June 20, 1940 at the home of her parents in Featherstone Township. They made their home in Zumbrota Township where they farmed. Mildred was a homemaker, assisted her husband with the dairy herd and farm work until they retired. They raised two children. Herbert passed away in 2001.
She was a rural school teacher in Goodhue County before marriage. After marriage she taught Sunday School at Christ Lutheran Church and was active in Ladies Aid for many years. She was a 4-H contact leader and member of an Extension Home Study Group and Home Council.
Mildred enjoyed many past times including traveling, playing cards, and needlework. She liked to crochet and made many afghans, giving them to children and grandchildren. She also liked to embroider. Some of the prettiest pieces she made were pieces of hardanger. Mildred liked to travel. She and her husband had seen so much of the United States including Hawaii and part of Europe in their younger years. Mildred always treasured time with family and friends.
She is survived by her two children: Karen Stehr and James (Trudy) Schliep; four grandchildren: Craig Stehr, Kurt (Molly) Stehr, Matthew (Laura) Schliep and Tara (Kory) Matthees: eight great grandchildren: Ryan (Kim), Alyssa, Derek, Wyatt, Carson and Abigail Stehr, Claira Sullivan and Rylee Schliep. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, son-in-law Roger Stehr, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
