Millie M. Pauba

August 7, 1930 — December 9, 2018

Millie Pauba, 88, of Zumbrota passed away on Sunday, December 9, 2018, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am, Friday, December 14, at the Catholic Church of St. Paul in Zumbrota with Father Randal Kasel officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, with a Rosary Service beginning at 6:30 pm, at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota, and Friday, one hour before the service at the church. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery.
Millie was born in the Owatonna area on August 7, 1930 to Louis and Amelia (Rysavy) Sobrek. Millie's family lived a simple life and, as a young girl, she enjoyed ice skating, roller skating, swimming at the gravel pit, walking to all with her five siblings. There was always music, singing, and dancing in her home growing up, and her love of music continued throughout her life.
Millie attended Owatonna High School and graduated in 1948. She worked at Federated Mutual Insurance Company until her marriage to Jim Pauba, on August 23, 1952. Jim joined the service, and stationed in Illinois they lived the Air Force life for two years before eventually settling in Zumbrota in 1956.
Millie worked for DHIA for 23 years before her retirement in November 1999. She was a long-time member of the Church of St. Paul, and faithfully attended Sunday Mass.
Millie's bright smile, wonderful sense of humor, and positive spirit made her a friend to many in town.
She truly loved small town living, walking all about town, sharing raspberries and rhubarb with friends and neighbors, garage saling until she got too much "stuff", and volunteering at the food shelf.
Millie truly enjoyed spending time and making memories with family and friends. She valued family above all else.
A wide variety of interests kept Millie busy, including gardening and yardwork, traveling, dancing to old time music, attending Bluegrass concerts, family camping, decorating with family heirlooms in her home, doing crossword puzzles, reading a good book, trying her luck at slots on occasional casino outings, decorating her home for Christmas, preparing holiday dinners using old family recipes, sewing, car rallying with the Rochester Sports Car Club, attending racing at Donnybrooke at Brainerd - later moving on to NASCAR on TV, and dabbling in fishing up north - even catching a few walleye and northern, and many more. Millie was always up for an adventure.
Millie is survived by her four daughters, Kathy (Gary) Matthees of Greenville, WI, Karen (Bryce) Ofstie of Duluth, MN, Gayle Schultz (Jeff) of Pepin, WI, and Amy (Tom) Foldesi of Duluth, MN; ten grandchildren, Jennifer, Molly, Sarah, Rachel, Adam, Dan, Caitlyn, Gabe, Wallice, and Jill; four great-grandchildren Meagan, Ella, Lauren, Camden, and Baby Schultz on the way; sisters Bunny Grabbe of Rochester and Rose Hoffman of Owatonna; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, her parents, Louis and Amelia, two brothers, Lawrence and Eugene Sobrek, and one sister, Elaine Johnson.
