Norma Jean Wobig

May 9, 1932 — November 4, 2019

Norma J. (Closner) Wobig, age 87, of Pine Island, died peacefully Monday, November 4, 2019, at Homestead at Anoka. Norma was born May 9, 1932, on the family farm near Berne, Minnesota, to Russell and Alice (Schiesser) Closner. After graduating from Pine Island High School, Norma began working for the local business community, including Land O'Lakes, where she worked for over 20 years before retiring.

Norma met Richard (Dick) Wobig in the Pine Island High School Library, and they got married in 1951. After living in Pine Island for the first 13 years of their marriage, they bought a hobby farm on the outskirts of town. They raised beef cattle, had a large and beautiful garden, and enjoyed family life there for 35 years. After retirement Dick and Norma liked living in Pine Island during the warmer months and wintering in Tucson, AZ. They felt at home in both places, and enjoyed many years spending time in their homes with family and friends. They also enjoyed traveling and saw many sights across the U.S. and around the world. Throughout her life Norma enjoyed reading the daily paper and was well versed about local and worldwide events. She also loved to cook and could often be found scouring cookbooks for new recipes. Her family loved her pies, and she kept a special stash of cookies for her grandchildren's visits, even once they became adults.

Norma is survived by her son Larry (Ann) Wobig of Plymouth, MN and her daughter Tammy (Wayne) Freimund of Clemson, SC, son-in-law Paul Evenson of Rochester, MN, grandchildren, Cortney (Luke) Olson, Heather (Spencer) Hagen, Ben (Megan) Freimund, Chris (fiancé Mariana) Freimund, and her beloved great-grandchildren Laney and Miles Olson, Emmett and Leo Hagen, and Harper Freimund. Norma is preceded in death by her loving husband, Dick Wobig, daughter Peggy Evenson, her parents, and her brother Sam Closner.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Pine Island Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association. Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Friends may share a memory at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
