Philip Arthur HItchcock

Philip A. Hitchcock, age 85, of Pine Island passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2018. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Island with Pastor Marie A.K. Anderson officiating. The visitation will be for one hour prior the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in the Pine Island Cemetery with Military Honors by the American Legion. Arrangements were made with Mahn Family Funeral Home - Mahler Chapel in Pine Island.

Philip Arthur Hitchcock was born on January 2, 1933 to Harry and Ruth (Brattz) Hitchcock in Park Rapids, MN. He was raised in Nevis with seven siblings; he attended country school until the sixth grade, and then Nevis High School. Phil entered the United States Navy on September 7, 1950 in Minneapolis; he served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged on December 3, 1953. He married Melba "Beverly" Enevold on December 11, 1954 in St. Paul. They made their first home in St. Paul where they had three children. In 1969 they moved to Pine Island where Phil started his career as an engineer for Northwestern Bell until his retirement in the 80s. In 1992 they bought a home in Webster, WI and lived between there and Pine Island for many years. When Beverly passed in 2011, Phil sold their home in Webster and moved back to Pine Island permanently. Phil was very active at their church in Webster; he was a member of the Pine Island Legion and of Saint Paul Lutheran Church.

Phil enjoyed flirting with the ladies, cutting wood, hunting with family, bowling, being outdoors, snowmobiling, enjoying life, and especially spending time with his friends and family.

Phil is survived by his three children, William Hitchcock of the Twin Cities; Debra (Kenneth) Gale of Webster, WI, and James (Kim) Hitchcock of Pine Island; eight grandchildren, Shaun, Melissa, Nicole, Nathan, Breanna, Zachary, Emily, and Ashley; six great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Joyce) Hitchcock of Fergus Falls; and sister-in-law, Etta Mae Hitchcock of OR.

Phil was preceded in death by his loved wife of 54 years, Beverly; three brothers, Don, Dean and Dave Hitchcock; and three sisters, Dee, June and Dorothy.
