Rena Ida Degener, age 96, formerly of Zumbrota, died Monday, September 3, 2018 at Burrows Adult Foster Care in Lake City. She was born December 5, 1921, in Mazeppa Township, Wabasha County, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. Rena married Lawrence E. Degener on September 14th, 1943, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Mazeppa. They farmed together all their married life. She was a faithful farmer wife, mother and grandmother. Lawrence died in 1992. She was a member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Zumbrota, where she was active in the ladies aid. She loved and looked forward to holidays when she could bake, cook and entertain her family.
Survived by one son Larry (Irma) of Hager City, WI; three grandsons, Ren, Chris (Jen) and Reed (Julie) Degener of Rochester, MN; two step grandchildren, Tammy (Wade) Strain and Hunter Hague of Hager City, WI; eight great grandchildren, Evan, Hannah, Natalie, Cael, Tate and Addison Degener and Brock and Blair Strain. Rena was preceded in death by husband Lawrence; parents, Leonhard and Ida; three sisters, Lenora Haar, Cora Scheffler, Erna Grossbach; three brothers, Hubert, Norman and Carl Busse.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 7, 2018, at Christ Lutheran Church with Pastor Wayne Schoch officiating. Burial will be at the Zumbrota Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to Christ Lutheran Church. Funeral arrangements are with the Mahn Family funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing.
