Robert 'Red' Wallaker

Robert ‘Red' Wallaker, age 88, of Wanamingo, died on August 12, 2018 at his home surrounded by family. A funeral service will be on Thursday, August 16 at 2:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo with Pastor Christopher Culuris officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday for one hour before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Military Honors. Arrangements were made with Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota.
Robert Melroy Wallaker was born on May 6, 1930 to Manton and Ida (Steberg) Wallaker Fredrickson in Cherry Grove Township, Goodhue County. He attended country school and joined the United States Army on May 15, 1946 at the age of 14. Red was a part of the 55th Regiment in Italy and was honorably discharged on April 6, 1949 . On October 4, 1952 Robert married Geraldine Schaefer in Sioux Falls, SD. They moved to Wanamingo, Red remodeled their home and they raised eight children, creating a lot of memories. Red worked for Arco Dairy for 14 years hauling milk cans before it was converted over to bulk hauling, he also worked for Gus Myran doing some welding work during this time. He then changed paths and worked with Total Asphalt for 27 years. Red and Geraldine built a house and moved to Mendota Height in 1978 residing there until 1992, when Red retired. They built a home and moved back to Wanamingo in that same year. He was a member of local 49ers Union, the local VFW and Trinity Lutheran Church.
Red enjoyed taking family trips when the children were young in his camper he made out of a school bus, singing and dancing, going to coffee with his friends, driving around his golf cart, fishing, welding up creations and spending time with his family, especially his grandkids, who all got special nicknames.
Red is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Geraldine; children, Gerald (Linda) Wallaker, Nancy Raths, LaRita (Jim) Brown, Debra (George) McWaters, Cheryl (Merlin) Moreland, Teresa (Larry) Lawson, Brenda (Jack) Harvey, Steven (Pam Sawyer) Wallaker; 23 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; 14 step great-grandchildren; 1 great great-grandson; brothers, Richard Wallaker and Paul Fredrickson; sisters, Carolyn Walker and KayAnn Becker.
Red was preceded in death by his brother, Elyrck Wallaker; sisters, Dorothy Lohman and Evelyn Radke; son-in-law, Donald Raths; great grandson, Austin Larson.
