Scott Kenneth Roper

Scott Kenneth Roper, 60, of Red Wing, died as the result of a tragic accident while doing what he loved. He was born August 28, 1958, to Kenneth and Neoma (Kells) Roper in Lake City. He grew up on the family farm in Frontenac and attended Red Wing Central High School, graduating in 1977. He made his home in Red Wing and worked various places including Micky's Steel and St. Paul Terminals. He met his wife, Renee Voth, on a blind date and it must have worked out because the couple married on August 11, 1984, at St. John's in Goodhue. Together they raised three boys and found one more. At the time of his passing and for more than 19 years prior, Scott worked for Gerdau Steel. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, first in Frontenac and then in Red Wing. He enjoyed spending time with his sons and grandchildren, hunting, and hanging out in his hunting shack. He was devoted to work and never turned down an opportunity for overtime. He was always willing to help when asked, sometimes at the expense of his own projects. He loved ‘coon hunting, old cars, and the family farm.
He is survived by his wife, Renee; four sons, Jesse Riegelman, Joshua (Liz) Roper, Travis (Amanda) Roper and Shane (Katrina) Roper; grandchildren, Aiden, Kaylee, Samantha, Hazel, Olivia, Brooks, and Brody; mother, Neoma Roper; siblings, Robin (Jean) Roper, Carol (Dan) Davidson, John (Lynette) Roper, Bill (Jeanne) Roper, Connie (Kevin) Ide, Bonnie (Craig) Weber, and Jim (Jane) Roper; many nieces, nephews, other family, and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth and his trusty ‘coon hound, Lenny.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, June 29, 2019 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Red Wing. Visitation will be 4-7p.m, Friday, June 28, 2019 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at church.
