Ursula Vangsness age 82, of Zumbrota died on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital-Rochester, St. Marys Campus. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Minneola Lutheran Church in rural Zumbrota with Pastor Hannah Bergstrom de Leon officiating. Inurnment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the church.
Anna Ursula Szymanski was born on November 11, 1936 in Ahlen, Germany to Franz and Anna (nee Quanta) Szymanski. Ursula grew up in Ahlen and attended schools there. On June 2, 1960 she married Stanley Vangsness in Germany. Stanley was serving in the United States Air Force and the family moved around to different air bases within the United States. In the late 1970's, Stanley retired from the Air Force and they moved to Zumbrota. Ursula enjoyed raising flowers, cooking, gardening and socializing.
Ursula is survived by her son, Uwe (Laurie) Vangsness of Cedar Rapids, IA; granddaughter, Angela (Tony) Koehne of Rochester; great grandchildren, Axton and Aiden Koehne; sister, Hanalora (Rudy) Spencer and brother, Walter Szymanski.
Ursula was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; parents, Franz and Anna Szymanski; siblings, Karl, Franz, Werner, Mia, Hilda, Alfrieda and Heinz.
Memorials are suggested to Minneola Lutheran Church.
