Wanda Faye Henke, 68, of Niobrara, Nebraska, formerly of Red Wing, died Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at the McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. She was born September 23, 1950, in Red Wing, to Russell and Louise (Lovgren) Salmonson and graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1968. She went on to attend Rochester Community College and worked as a medical secretary at Mayo Clinic. On August 25, 1973, she was united in marriage to Leland Henke at First Lutheran Church in Red Wing. They lived in Iowa and South Dakota until settling in Nebraska in 1982. Wanda had worked as a secretary at the USD Medical School, as a 4th grade teacher at Santee Elementary School and finally as head librarian and GED tester at the Nebraska Indian Community College. She was very passionate about books and reading, she also loved to crochet and do other craftwork.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Leland of Niobrara, NE; children, Michael (Sara) of Omaha, NE, Robyn (Adam) Schweitzer of Freemont, NE and Scott (Jenelle Klabunde) of Gretna, NE; grandchildren, Matthew, Clara, and August; siblings, Robert Salmonson and Nona Nelson both of Red Wing and Linda (Mel) Brown of Otho, IA and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2019, at First Lutheran Church in Red Wing, with Rev. Arthur Sharot officiating. Visitation will be one hour before to the service.
