Willard Rudolph Holst

Willard Rudolph Holst, 91, of Red Wing, died on Thursday, August, 22, 2019, at his residence. He was born in Hay Creek on April 16, 1928, to Rudolph and Amelia (Stumpf) Holst. He grew up and attended schools in Hay Creek. Willard was united in marriage with Marjorie Dose on June 30, 1950. He worked at the Goodhue Creamery, S.B. Foot Tannery for 27 years, and farmed many years in Hay Creek. He gained many lifelong friends during his working career. In 1999, he and Marjorie moved to Red Wing. Marjorie died on September 27, 2007. Willard was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing cards at Dressens, bowling in his earlier years, fishing, listening to polka music, dancing to the "Blue Skirt Waltz" with Marjorie, and attending family gatherings.
He is survived by six children, Joan Larkin of Red Wing, Sharon (Rollin) Larson of Vasa, Sue (Bill) Gorman of Goodhue, Janelle (Bob) McNamara of Goodhue, Bruce (Pam) Holst of Goodhue, and Craig (Kristine) Holst of Red Wing; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marjorie; brother, Luverne (Verona) Holst; and sister, Marcella (Walter) Ahrens.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2019, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hay Creek. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, August 26, 2019, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
