Andrija "Andy" Vukmir

Andrija (Andy) Vukmir, 95, of Red Wing, died Sunday, April 26, 2026 at his home at Deer Crest Senior Living. He was born October 23, 1930, in West Wilmerding, PA to George and Anna Vukmir. He attended Turtle Creek High School and graduated in 1948. He worked a few years, then attended Waynesburg College and continued evening school. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Waynesburg College, PA, in 1967.

On July 19, 1958, he was united in marriage to Hazel K, Kistler. He worked in the commercial nuclear power program for Westinghouse Nuclear Power Division for 36 years. They traveled extensively and lived in several states and in Baden, Switzerland and Varberg, Sweden.

Andy was active in Toastmasters and attained the level of Distinguished Toaster (DTM), Toastmaster International’s highest honor.

Andy enjoyed playing bridge, golf, bicycling, bird watching, traveling, model trains, and volunteering. He volunteered many hours at libraries and was a regular volunteer with the Friends of the Library in Red Wing and Crystal River, Florida. Andy and his wife Hazel wintered in Florida for 20 years and were Park Hosts at the Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park, Homosassa, Florida.

Andy is survived by his brother Vladimir, Dayton, Ohio, and sister Georgeanne Vukmir of Hernando, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Mihailo, 1927 and sisters Diana in 2009 and Emily in 2010.

A combined burial will be at a later date for Andy and Hazel in Brush Creek Cemetery in Irwin, PA.
