Anita Knudtsen, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on December 23, 2025 at the age of 99.
She was born in Henning, Minnesota, and was known for an unwavering christian faith and deep and abiding love of family. Anita was married for seventy-seven years to the love of her life, Roger, America’s “Greatest Generation” had courageous men defending freedom on distant shores, and courageous women whose selfless service on the home front sustained our nation.
Anita was one of those women. A devoted homemaker, she was the perfect complement to Roger’s work on the dairy farm and in the insurance business. Together, they raised two wonderful daughters, were successful in training two son-in-laws, and remained ever so proud of their granddaughter.
Anita was an accomplished seamstress, great cook, avid gardener, and tireless volunteer. Her christian faith guided her service outside the home. She taught Sunday School at church, conducted youth bible studies in the community — and was active in Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Ladies Aid, and adult bible study. For many years she served the Red Wing community as a volunteer driver for Faith In Action—providing mobility for those in need.
Anita was preceded in death by parents, Hilda and Jesse Green, sister LaVay Charlson, brother Russell Green, and her beloved husband, Roger. Anita is survived by daughters Brenda Hennessey (Peter) and Marcia Abbott (Steve); and granddaughter Jessica Hennessey (Steven Tingle); and all those she touched by her christian love and service to others.
A celebration of life will follow in the spring, with information provided when available. Anita would want any memorial contributions devoted to her congregation at Concordia Lutheran Church, 1805 Bush St., Red Wing, Minnesota 55066.
