Audrey Ann Fuchs, 84, of Pine Island, died unexpectedly on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at her home, of natural causes. She was born January 21, 1941, in New Avon Township to Sylvester and Ella (Peterson) Riley. She graduated from Lamberton High School in 1959 and began working at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. On October 2, 1965, she married James Fuchs and the two lived in Byron before making their home in rural Pine Island where they raised their family and had a hobby farm with horses. Audrey worked as a nurse’s assistant and as a surgical tech at St. Marys until her retirement in 2003. After retiring, she cared for her mother and worked as a home health aid for Prairie River as well as a Para for the Pine Island Elementary and Panther Pals. Audrey was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and had served on its women’s circles. She loved to go shopping, decorate for the holidays, play cards and care for her horses. She had an infectious laugh and a friendly, outgoing personality; she could always find someone to talk to.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jim Fuchs; 2 daughters, Rhonda Wencel and Audra (Randy) DePestel; 5 grandchildren, Ashley (Robert) Story, Steven (Erica) and Christian (Jalena Morales) Wencel and Morgan (Logan) Simon and Brandon (Ella Maggard) DePestel; 3 great-grandchildren, Ryleigh, Sarah and Leo; siblings, Sylvester Jr. “Bob” (Kathleen) Riley, Ed (Kathy) Riley, Bernard (Marianne) Riley and Marian (Dan) Arnoldi as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Connor Wencel; sister, Monica Kingsley and 2 brothers, Dennis “Tony” and Giles “Pickle” Riley.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Byron. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Burial will take place at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Mahler Chapel.
