Audrey Gilbertson, 90, of Hager City, died Friday, April 11, 2025, at the Neighborhoods at Brookview in Brookings, SD. She was born on May 29, 1934, in Ladysmith, Wisconsin to Frank and Lillian (Morris) Russ. She received her nursing degree from Northwestern University. On September 24, 1955, she was united in marriage to the love of her life Wayne A. Gilbertson. She worked as a nurse, homemaker and was a wonderful mother. Audrey was a member of the Pierce County Historical Association and the Bay City American Legion Auxiliary.
What brought her the most joy was spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also deeply involved with the Pierce County Historical Association, serving on the board of directors, spending countless hours cataloging donations and sharing her knowledge of the area. She was also an avid fan of Diet Coke.
Audrey is survived by two sons, Jay (Bonnie) Gilbertson of Brookings, SD and Jeff (Pam) Gilbertson of Eden Prairie, MN; three grandchildren, Peter (Carolyn) Gilbertson, Alexander Gilbertson and Kelli (Alex) Dorosz; four great grandchildren, Jack, Audrey, Marit, Olivia along with numerous nieces and nephews, all whom will forever hold her memory in their hearts. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Wayne in 1999 and two brothers, John and Peter Russ.
A visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Ellsworth Chapel in Ellsworth. Burial will be at a later date at the Bay City Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Pierce County Historical Association are encouraged.
