Beverly Ann Barton, lovingly known as Bev or Grandma Bev, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026, in Redmond, Washington. She was born on June 16, 1943, in Wabasha, Minnesota, to Ervine Thomas Barton and Lillian Louise Weir.
Bev grew up on a farm alongside her sisters, Shirley and Arlene. She often shared fond stories of milking cows and caring for farm animals. In 1962, Bev married Dale Martin Scheppat in Winona, Minnesota, and together they welcomed their son, Thomas Jean Scheppat, in 1964 while living in South Saint Paul, Minnesota. Dale passed away in 1972, and Bev showed immense courage and strength as she raised Thomas on her own. She later married Jack Rheineck, who had two wonderful daughters, Mary and Susie. Together, Bev and Jack shared a love of adventure, including riding Harley-Davidson motorcycles, camping, and spending time with family in Lake City, Minnesota.
In retirement, Bev and Jack split their time between Florida, Arizona, and Lake City, Minnesota, embracing each place with enthusiasm and making many great friends. Bev found deep joy in being a grandmother to Zachary and Hunter, and to Mary's son, Travis Rheineck. Grandma Bev was always easygoing - except when she was playing her family at her favorite game, Words With Friends. Her deep compassion for animals never faded, and this was beautifully reflected in her devotion to her final companion, Latte, a small toy poodle. Bev gave Latte a life filled with comfort, safety, and love, just as she did for so many others. Grandma Bev will be fondly remembered with a crossword puzzle book nearby and a dog curled up in her lap.
Bev was preceded in death by her parents, Ervine and Lillian; her sister, Arlene; her husbands, Dale and Jack; her grandson, Zachary; her stepdaughter, Susie; her step-grandson, Travis; and many beloved pets who no doubt welcomed her with excitement.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at 11 am at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel in Lake City, MN. Memorials are preferred to the Hiawatha Human Society.
