Buddy Dean Westerberg, age 63, was surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer when he passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at his home in Red Wing.
Buddy was born on December 2, 1962 in Minneapolis, MN to Dwelton "Gene" and Irene (Mickolichek) Westerberg. He was fortunate to grow up in the communities of Coon Rapids, Stockholm, WI and Red Wing. He graduated from the Red Wing Central High School, class of 1981. Buddy was a jack-of-all-trades and last worked for the City of Minneapolis for the maintenance group crews and as a mobile equipment operator.
He loved to be outdoors where he could fish, hunt, play golf, shoot pool, go four-wheeling, camping and traveling. Buddy had a serious passion for playing bean bags, supporting his local Minnesota Vikings and loving on his beloved dog, Lexi. Indoors, he enjoyed playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.
On April 30, 2019, Buddy married the love of his life, Shelly Morken, they made their home in Red Wing and shared their lives together at their camper "happy place" at Hay Creek Campground.
Buddy is survived by his wife, Shelly Westerberg; children, Michael (Hillary) Westerberg, Brittany (Davis Leaf) Westerberg, Carly (Bryan Anderson) Raebel and Cody Morken; grandchildren, Crystalina, Moraina, Terry, Hailey, Mason and Kameron; siblings, Andy (Cathy), Marti (Gary), Debi, Tommy (Lycia) and Beverly (Chad); sister-in-law, Deanna Westerberg; brother-in-law, Jonny Morken; mother-in-law, Janet (Merlin) Ring; extended family, friends and many at Hay Creek Campground.
In addition to his parents and grandparents, Buddy is preceded in death by his brothers, Frank "Keno" and Charles "Uncle Uck"; brother-in-law, Jim Thuman; father-in-law, Chuck Morken; other cherished relatives and friends.
A Visitation with a time of sharing will be on Friday, July 10, 2026 from 4-6PM at Mahn Funeral Home in Red Wing. A celebration of Buddy's life will be held on Saturday, July 11 from 11AM to 4 PM at Hay Creek Campground and Saloon (S. Hwy 58, Red Wing). A light lunch will be served - please come and celebrate and don't forget to wear MN Vikings attire!
