Obituary

Cameron Munakupya Walker September 23, 2006 – May 12, 2026

Cameron Munakupya Walker, 19, of Red Wing, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly on May 12, 2026.

Born on September 23, 2006, to Ron and Cholwe Walker in Burnsville, Minnesota, Cameron grew up in Savage alongside three of his siblings Brandon, Masuzgo, and Ayden. From a young age, he stood out not only for his athletic ability and intelligence, but for the kindness and compassion he showed to everyone around him. Cameron had the gentlest heart, an infectious smile, and a warmth that made people feel instantly welcome. He had a rare gift for making others feel special, valued, and deeply loved. His humor and joyful spirit brought light to every room he entered.

In 2017, Cameron and his family moved to Red Wing, where he continued to excel both academically and athletically. He played varsity soccer and football throughout high school and he also participated in basketball, baseball, and track and field, all while maintaining outstanding grades and completing two years of college coursework before graduating. Cameron also served as founder and president of the Black Student Union at Red Wing High School, where he organized events, supported fellow students, and helped raise funds for the community he cared so deeply about.

Following his graduation from Red Wing High School in 2024, Cameron accepted a scholarship to the University of Minnesota Morris. There, he played goalkeeper for the men’s soccer team while pursuing a degree in computer science with a minor in business. He was expected to graduate with his bachelor’s degree in December 2026.

During his time in Morris, Cameron quickly became a beloved part of campus life. He had a natural ability to form meaningful connections and built friendships everywhere he went. Whether in the classroom, on the soccer field, or within the community, Cameron brought people together with his kindness, humor, and welcoming spirit. He was a pivotal part of both the Morris and Red Wing communities, leaving a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Outside of school and athletics, Cameron had countless passions and talents. He was incredibly mechanically minded and loved spending time restoring his two classic cars and working on his snowmobile. Cameron also loved cooking extravagant meals for his family and took great pride in sharing that talent with the people he loved. At just 14 years old, he prepared Beef Wellington for his entire extended family for Christmas, a memory that perfectly reflected both his talent and the love he poured into caring for others. Cameron approached everything in life with curiosity, determination, and enthusiasm far beyond his years.

During the week of his 19th birthday, Cameron purchased his first home in September 2025, an accomplishment he was incredibly proud of. He loved traveling and cherished the time he spent exploring the world with his family, especially trips to Zambia. He looked forward to future adventures, including a graduation trip to Ibiza and traveling to Italy for a family wedding.

More than any achievement, Cameron will be remembered for the way he made people feel. He was the sweetest soul — gentle, thoughtful, wise beyond his years, and endlessly kind. Cameron carried a warmth that drew people in and made them feel safe, important, and deeply loved. He never made anyone feel overlooked, and even the smallest interactions with him left a lasting impression. His smile could light up a room, and his humor, compassion, and genuine heart made people naturally gravitate toward him. Cameron was an incredible son, brother, uncle, nephew, teammate, and friend, and the love he gave so freely will continue to live on in everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Cameron is survived by his parents, Ronald Walker and Cholwe Hantuba; his siblings, Shae Hanson (Blake Hanson), Brandon Walker (Christine Walker), Masuzgo Mhango, and Ayden Walker; his grandmother, Ruth Walker; his niece, Skylar Hanson; and his nephews, Weston and Finley Hanson.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Kenneth Walker; his maternal grandparents, Landson Best Hantuba and Elita Hantuba; his aunt, Roxy Hantuba; and his uncle, Rodney Hantuba.

Funeral service for Cameron will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery, Red Wing.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Cameron’s honor. Contributions will help support funeral expenses, and the family hopes to establish a scholarship in Cameron’s memory.
