Carl "Kelly" Edward Larson

Carl “Kelly” Edward Larson, 88, of Mazeppa, passed away at Mayo Clinic Health Systems – St. Mary’s Campus, on Saturday, January 3, 2026. He was born to Tilden and Viola (Ihrke) Larson on December 1, 1937 in Pine Island Township, Minnesota. Kelly started work at M.J. Hart & Son Chevrolet in 1955 as a mechanic. He also drove busses for the Mazeppa School District and was the bus mechanic while working there. In April of 1959 Kelly & co-workers bought out Hart and renamed the business to L&R Sales and Service. Kelly married Joyce Mehrkens on May 30, 1959. After over 14 years of partnership, Kelly bought out his co-owner and renamed his business to Kelly’s Sales & Service. In 1978, he bought a farm in Mazeppa, where he moved in with Joyce and their children. Kelly ran the farm and the business until 1997, where he sold the business and focused on the farm. He would still occasionally help out at the business even after he sold it. Kelly continued to run the farm until 2009, where he had a farm auction and retired. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Mazeppa Fire Department for many years.

Kelly is survived by his loving wife Joyce; his daughters Jennifer (Joseph) Flowers, and Julie (James) Burdick; 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and son, Kevin Larson.
