Carol A. Olson

Carol Ann Olson, 92, of Red Wing, died on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at her home at Deer Crest Senior Living where she has resided for the past two and half years. She was born on December 1, 1933, in Red Wing to Clarence and Cecelia (Bartels) Deden. She graduated in 1951, from Red Wing Central High School and then furthered her education at the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester. She interned in Rochester and Chicago. For many years she worked as a nurse at City Hospital, St. John’s Hospital and retired in 1991, from Interstate Medical Clinic. On June 2, 1956, she was united in marriage to James Olson. They were blessed with two sons, Thomas and Richard. Carol also helped James with his business, as a bookkeeper. James died on October 5, 1991.

Carol was a faithful longtime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Wing. She taught Saturday school, helped on the funeral committee and participated in bible study. Also, in her retirement years she worked at the Wise Penny Thrift Store for 18 years. Carol enjoyed knitting, feeding the birds and occasionally taking a drive to Rochester to shop. She also was an avid Minnesota sports fan.

Carol is survived by her sons, Thomas and Richard both of Red Wing; two grandchildren, Rachel (Dave) of Woodbury and Kurt of Red Wing; three great grandchildren, Max, Hank and Ella and one step great grandchild, Kylee. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James and two brothers.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Reverend Todd Engel officiating. Burial will be at the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Please dress in casual attire. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. John’s Lutheran Church. Arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
