Curtis "Curt" Eldon Matthees

Curtis "Curt" Eldon Matthees, 80, of Red Wing, died Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester, Minnesota.

He was born December 25, 1945, in Red Wing to Dorothy Mae Alberta (Ehlen) and Eldon William Matthees. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota, MN. After graduating Goodhue High School in 1963 he worked with Matthees Construction building houses. He then married Janet (Callstrom) Matthees on July 24, 1965, at Spring Carden Lutheran Church. They adopted 2 children together and later divorced. He worked as a self-employed contractor installing cabinets for Crestwood Cabinets for many years. Curtis and his significant other, Cindy Odman, enjoyed many trips to Vegas and working on challenging puzzles together.

His children and grandsons were his pride and joy, he loved celebrating their birthdays and seeing them excel at whatever activities they were involved in, especially basketball. His goal after graduation was to someday own a Ford Thunderbird, which he did later in life. His grandsons loved to take a cruise with him and cherish those memories.

Curtis is survived by his two children, Jeff (Beth) Matthees and Jackie Matthees; three grandchildren, Ethan (Mya Hoffman), Sean, and Alex; four sisters, Connie (Mark) Flom, Mary Kluver, Pat (Don) Ryan, and Denise (Mark) Stabel, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Eldon and Dorothy Matthees.

Memorial service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, April 8th, 2026, at United Lutheran Church with Rev. Justin Boeding officiating, visitation an hour prior. Visitation will be from 5-7pm on Tuesday, April 7th, 2026, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
