Darla Ann Hanson, 65, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at home in Duluth, Minnesota. Darla was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on November 25th, 1960. She grew up with her parents, Burnell “Pete” Blake Hanson and Anita Fay Hanson and brother, “Johnny,” for a few years in Amarillo, Texas, before moving to Red Wing, MN. Among many things, Darla enjoyed playing around on the hobby farm with her brother and had fond memories of Pete taking her and Johnny fishing sometimes after church on Sunday. Darla moved to TBI Residential in Duluth in November of 2007 where she resided until her passing. Darla will be remembered for so many wonderful things. Darla was a very strong and kindred spirit. She loved animals, gardening, and nature…she almost always had a fresh bouquet of pretty flowers in her bedroom. Darla really enjoyed being with her friends and family. She loved her brother, Johnny, very much and called him up on the phone often to check in. Darla had a witty and sarcastic sense of humor which made everyone around her smile and laugh. She loved music, especially Merle Haggard, Elvis Presley, and Bon Jovi. Darla valued her solitude at times when struggling with her mental health and considered herself “shy.” But Darla truly was the life of the party when feeling well. Darla loved good food and treats, including fried chicken, sausage pizza, cheeseburgers, and of course any type of chocolate candy and other goodies. Darla’s absolute favorite activity was going out shopping with her housemates for clothing and jewelry. She especially appreciated checking out garage sales and thrift stores. Darla’s warm heart and strong spirit touched everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Darla is survived by her brother, John Hanson. She was preceded in death by her parents.
