Darlene Koenig

Darlene Verdell Koenig, 91, of Mazeppa, died Wednesday June 11, 2025 at her home at Deer Crest in Red Wing.

Born Darlene Gerken on May 17, 1934, in Red Wing, to Henry and Irene (Cater) Gerken. She attended Mazeppa Public School. She married Bob Koenig on October 28, 1950 in Rochester and the couple raised 3 children. Bob died on July 8, 1990. The couple farmed in rural Oronoco most of their married life. She was a homemaker who enjoyed flower gardening, baking and cooking, fishing, dancing, and playing cards. Most of all she loved get-togethers with family and friends.

She is survived by her children; Lonna (George) Swenson of Mazeppa, Gerald Koenig of Zumbrota, and LuAnn (Steve) Murray of Wabasha; grandchildren, Denise (Kirby) Long, Eric Murray, and Jeff (Kristi) Swenson; as well as many great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob; sister, Donna Butlin, granddaughter, Jessica Swenson; and her parents.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m., Monday, June 16, 2025 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mazeppa with Pastor Horn officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church.
