Darlyne Emily Lyons, age 84, of Eagan, passed away unexpectedly on 12/15/2022 of heart failure. Darlyne was the first born of Violet and Emmett Dohney on 09/12/1938, in St. Paul. She graduated from Washburn High School in 1956.
Darlyne met James Emmett Lyons at the Biltmore in Edina on Easter Sunday, April 1st, 1956, where they both worked. This led to 66 years of marriage and raising five children together in Richfield: [James M. (Lisa); Jeanne M. Feist (Dan); John E. (Dawn); Jeffrey T.; and Janice A. Parmenter (Dennis)] followed by 10 Grandchildren and 10 Great-grandchildren; all of whom survive. Darlyne is survived by 2 sisters Colleen Rose and Joan (Al) Gallus and a younger Aunt, Nancy (Peter) Stancuk. Darlyne was deeply saddened by the recent passing of her sister Sharon (John)Vickman, brother Emmett (Arlette) Dohney, and her aunt Carole and her husband Michael Ryan.
Darlyne worked diligently all her life; always valued and widely appreciated. She waitressed at Perkins and Radisson South, and was an administrative assistant at Suburban Radiological Consultants, Detronics and Gabbarts.
Dar and Jim moved to Lake City, MN in 1989, opening The Pepin House Bed and Breakfast. There, her abililities culminated in furnishing a beautiful home and providing outstanding hospitality. She was considered a gourmand. Throughout their marriage, Darlyne loved working together with her husband in various jobs; they were a faithful team. She disliked being alone when Jim worked second jobs, but finally solved this by joining him in working for Goldberg Bonding. She could tell many fascinating stories of people from the judges and attorneys to bailiffs and clients. Her helpful and caring attitude won many friends; but she mostly loved working together with her husband.
Above all, Darlyne took joy in her family. She had a keen mind, and could always share news of her extensive family. Recently, Jim and Dar found a new home in Eagan, MN. Although sad to move away from so many good friends, Darlyne loved being near her children again. Because Jeffrey and his family live in Norway, she often video conferenced.
Jim and Dar especially enjoyed travelling together, and shared many wonderful vacations with family and friends. Darlyne and Jim often enjoyed long car tours and the opportunities to talk. Few know that Darlyne was a prolific reader.
Darlyne will be remembered for her outstanding hospitality, thoughtfulness, tireless service and love of her family. Although her body became frail, her strength of mind, determination, and service to others was undiminished.
