David George Marklevits

April 9, 1954 — January 2, 2026

Hager City,Wisconsin

David George Marklevits, 71, of Hager City died unexpectedly on Friday, January 2, 2026 at Regions Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 9, 1954 to David and Janet (Goldsmith) Marklevits in Red Wing, MN. He grew up in Red Wing and graduated from Red Wing High School.

Dave, affectionately known as Butch, began a life-long master class on work ethic at Brigham Young University, where he earned his Masters degree in Accountancy and Tax while raising four kids and working as a custodian for the university. He earned his CPA by stealing away minutes to study in a busy home that was far from quiet.

He worked as an accountant for various businesses, including Goodhue County Bank in Red Wing and Wieser Concrete in Maiden Rock, all while completing hundreds of personal and small business tax returns each year in the tax business he started and ran since 1982. He retired in 2022 but continued to prepare and file tax returns at his business, often generously accepting the payment that individuals and families could afford.

Butch loved music, his pets, gardening, and his 1970 Chevelle. He drummed along to classic rock on his own for years before recently joining a band. He loved playing fetch with his dogs, chucking balls again and again for his German shepherds Sadie and Samson. He made the best popcorn balls and held strong opinions about which popcorn maker popped the best corn. He loved getting behind the wheel of his Chevelle for cruising or showing it off at classic car shows. He gave fierce hugs and handshakes, the kind you kept feeling long after he let go.

Dave is survived by his five children, Farah (Jim), Josh (Alicia), Katrina, Cory, and Jenna Marklevits; his sister, Beth (Robert) Scrimshaw and brother, Terry (Julie) Marklevits; and his four grandchildren, Jaylin Marklevits, Miah Carrigan, and Eloise and Nora van Howe. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Michael; and nephew, Connor.
