David George Kruger, 76, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at his home.
He was born October 15, 1946 in Mondovi, Wisconsin to Elmer and LaVerne (Knudson) Kruger. He grew up in Eleva, Wisconsin and graduated from Eleva-Strum High School. He was drafted right out of high school and served in Vietnam. On December 23, 1966 he married his high school sweetheart, Kerry Fjelstad. Following his honorable discharge the couple made their home in the Strum area and the couple was blessed with 3 children. Kerry and Dave owned Dave’s 66 Service Station in Strum. In 1982 they moved to Red Wing where Dave worked as a mechanic for Knudsen’s Trucking. Later he drove truck for Fillmore and bussed for Hiawathaland Transit, was also a school bus monitor for Red Wing Schools. Dave also served as a reserve police officer in Red Wing.
Dave was a member of the Phantom Car Club and enjoyed taking his ’73 Nova to area car shows. He loved to attend his grandkids sporting events and was one of their biggest supporters. In his later years he enjoyed wood burning art and created lots of small signs and gifts for his family. Most of all, Dave was very proud of his family and extended family.
He is survived by his three children; Joy Kruger, Julie (Ray) Stone, and Kory (Holly) Kruger, all of Red Wing; four grandchildren, Tanner Kruger, Ben Kruger, Zach Kruger, and Allie Kruger; one great-grandson, Kato David Kruger; siblings, Sarah Kruger of Waterford, Wisconsin, Larry (Sue) Kruger of Eleva, Wisc., Geraldine (Bob) Kolve of Strum, Wisc., and Greg (Kaye) Kruger of Eleva; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Kerry; and his parents.
Funeral Service will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Rev. Justin Boeding officiating. Visitation will be 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date. Military Honors will be provided by the Leo C. Peterson American Legion, Post #54.
