David John Lassek

May 22, 1946 — Oct 10, 2026

Red Wing, MN

David “Dave” John Lassek, 80, of Red Wing, passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2026, in Rosemount, Minnesota, surrounded by his loving family.

Dave was born on May 22, 1946, to Edwin and Helen (Schrantz) Lassek in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. He grew up in Eau Claire and graduated from Regis Catholic High School in 1964. On November 25, 1967, at the age of 21, he married his childhood sweetheart, Patricia Ann, in Eau Claire.

Dave graduated from North Dakota State University with degrees in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering. He also earned an executive MBA from Penn State and went on to serve the government in a career that began by contracting with the U.S. Navy. His career took him and his family to California, Virginia, and Wisconsin before they ultimately settled in Red Wing, Minnesota. Dave and Pat made their home there, where they raised their four children: Teri, Jenny, Kati, and John. Dave took pride in his career; he retired as VP of Naval Operations at BAE Systems.

Family was at the center of Dave’s life. He loved his children and grandchildren deeply and was incredibly proud of each of them. Becoming a grandfather brought him tremendous joy, and becoming a great-grandfather, or “Guppy,” was a role he treasured. He started many of the family’s cherished holiday traditions at his home in Red Wing, creating memories that brought everyone together year after year. Alongside the many joys of family, Dave also carried the heartbreak of losing his beloved 19-year-old son, John, on August 8, 1999, a loss that remained an important part of his family’s story.

Dave will be remembered for his generous spirit, kind heart, and the many ways he showed up for the people he loved. He had a passion for life and enjoyed spending his time golfing, hunting, cooking, bowling, playing cards, working in the yard, woodworking, and gardening. He served as president of the Red Wing Gun Club and especially cherished time spent at his cabin, which he lovingly called his “happy place.” Whether surrounded by family, enjoying the outdoors, or working on a project, Dave found happiness in life’s simple pleasures.

Dachshunds held a special place in Dave’s heart. Lucy was his constant companion for many years, rarely far from him. He loved to spoil his dachshunds, often sneaking them bites of whatever he was eating. Nala, Lucy’s sister, stepped into that special role in her own way, remaining close to Dave until the end.

Dave was a passionate sports fan who loved cheering on his favorite teams, especially the Brewers and Packers. This summer, he watched every single Brewers game, never missing a moment of the season. He also loved supporting his grandchildren and watching them play when given the opportunity. Sports were one of Dave’s favorite topics of conversation.

As one of Dave’s grandchildren so beautifully expressed, “May God continue to surround you with His peace, comfort, and love. We love you, Guppy. Go Brewers!”

Dave will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Dave is survived by his three daughters, Theresa (Ralph Garcia) Klopp of Rosemount; Jennifer (Jay) Tauer of Rosemount; and Kathleen (Paul) Fohrenkamm of Arden Hills; six grandchildren, Alex (Kailey) Tauer, Ryan Klopp, Josh Klopp, Anna Tauer, Stella Garcia, and Brody Fohrenkamm; and one great-granddaughter, London Tauer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Lassek; his son, John Lassek; his brother, Eugene Lassek; and his parents, Helen and Edwin Lassek.

A private burial will take place at a later date at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
