David Wayne Wartenberg, 79, of Red Wing, died Monday, May 27, 2024, at the Lake City Care Center. He was born on September 24, 1944, at St. Joseph Hospital in Mankato, Minnesota to Donald and Margaret (Dobie) Wartenberg and raised on the family farm near Amboy, MN. He graduated from Amboy High School and then attended Mankato State College graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1968. In 1973, he married Kathy Wersal in Souix Falls, SD and they had one daughter, Erica Wartenberg. They later divorced. He was employed at Jostens in Red Wing and later for Unisys and North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis as a system analyst. After he retired from North Memorial, he faithfully continued to volunteer there every week for many years. David loved to volunteer for the Diabetes Association at the Minnesota State Fair and other events. He was an avid Minnesota Gopher and Minnesota Twins fan.
David is survived by his daughter, Erica Wartenberg; step-son Jason and his wife and children; special friend, Sherry Oleson; sister-in-law, Marilyn Wartenberg; two nieces, Nancy (Jonathan) Williams and Brenda (Tye) Yohannes along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; Donald and Margaret Wartenberg, step-son, James Wersal; one brother, Richard Wartenberg and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
A visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing. Memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association.
