Dawn Marie Hygnstrom

Dawn Marie Hygnstrom passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026 at Spring Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center after a 28-year residency in the facility. She was a sweet and innocent soul who was liked by all who cared for her.

Dawn was born on November 2, 1959 at St. Johns Hospital in Red Wing, Minnesota. Complications at birth and a childhood bout with measles led to significant mental and physical disabilities for Dawn. Speculation was that she wouldn't live into her teens, but by the miracles of modern medicine, seizure control drugs, and her Lord God, she lived to the age of 66. Dawn was cared for at home by family members for her first 38 years and then by the wonderful staff at Spring Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center. She couldn't attend school or work, but she touched the lives of many with her smile and gentle demeanor.

Dawn was preceded in death by her loving parents Edward and Delores Hygnstrom, grandparents, and several aunts and uncles. She will be missed by her brother Scott (Jan) Hygnstrom of Park Falls, Wisconsin, and several living cousins and extended family members. A private graveside service will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing, Minnesota, where her ashes will be laid beside those of her parents and other family members.

Arrangements are entrusted to Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers and other memorials, donations to the Spring Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center would be appreciated.
