Dennis Richard Schott, 78, of Goodhue, died Sunday, June 22, 2025 at home surrounded by family. He was born on September 3, 1946 to Richard and Maxine (Tarras) Schott in the twin cities area. Dennis was united in marriage to Lorie Marlene Apley on April 13, 1985.
Dennis worked as a garbage hauler in Rochester as a young adult for many years and then worked for his brother, Jeff, at Red Wing Recycling in Red Wing. Later becoming an owner/operator driving semi. Stock car racing was Dennis's life, and many would say you could find him at a local track on weekends. Dennis still had a 35 Plymouth Coupe #100 that he was very proud of, resembling what he raced when he started. He won the Hiawatha Speedway Championship in 1969. Dennis had a passion for gardening and enjoyed cooking his famous stews for the family to enjoy.
Dennis is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Lorie; his children, Connie (Mark), Bonnie (Thomas), John (Kara), Denny (Jennine), Brian (Brittany), Jackie (Troy), Shawn (Sheila), and Zac (Mercy); 30 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and his brother, Rick Schott. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Maxine; brothers, Jeff and Ronnie; sister, Sharon; great-granddaughter, Ireland; and his uncle, Bob, who meant so much to him and he looked up to, as well as many other uncles, aunts, and cousins.
A celebration of life will be at 1pm on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the VFW Post 5727 in Zumbrota, Minnesota. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
