Donald P. Solberg Wanamingo, MN. passed away on 09.08.2024 was born April 01, 1930 to Peter O. and Minnie Satren Solberg. Grew up in Wanamingo, MN. and graduated from Wanamingo High School in 1948, served 4 years in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in July 1952.
During his 42 years in Sales/Marketing in artificial breeding of livestock industry his work afforded him the opportunity to travel to 49 states, 28 international countries and 6 continents. He retired from CRI-Genex in 1995.
He married Gertrude "Trudy" Froyum on October 10, 1959. They had 3 sons Paul, James and Jon. During their life together they resided in MN, IA, GA, IL, WI and retired in AZ. Don and Trudy entertained many international guests in their homes.
Don served as a Director of The National Association of Animal Breeders as well as many other committees. In 1966 he received their Distinguished Service Award. He was a member of The National Dairy Shrine and received the Living Pioneer Award in 2003.
The family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Disabled American Veterans, St. Judes Children's Hospital and The National Dairy Shrine.
He is survived by his sons, Paul and Jon; grandchildren, Brianna (Steve Brummer), Lindsay, Daniel, Aaron, David and Abigail Solberg (Jay Popenhagen); great grandson, Colton; brother, Merrill (Becky) Solberg; sister, Pat Opfer; and sister-in-law, Gail Solberg.
He was preceded in death by wife, Trudy; son, James; parents; sisters, Dolores Steege, Mary Ann Scharpen; brother, Gary; brother-in-Laws, Lloyd Steege, David Opfer and Duane Scharpen.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will follow the service at the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery.
