Donald K. Zimmerman

Donald Kenyon Zimmerman, 86, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, April 15, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born April 21, 1939, in Dawson, Minnesota, to Thomas and Isabel (Kenyon) Zimmerman. He grew up in Maynard, Minnesota and graduated from high school there in 1957. Donald enlisted in the US Air Force and served until he was honorably discharged in 1963. He married Darlene Kenworthy on March 18, 1961, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, where they lived before moving to Mankato for a short time, and finally to Red Wing in 1971, where they made their home and raised their family. Don began working at the Prairie Island Nuclear Power Plant and was part of the first operations crew. After his retirement in 1997, he worked part-time at Mt. Frontenac, a place where he enjoyed spending his free time golfing. Don was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the Leo C. Peterson American Legion. He and Darlene loved traveling together, especially across the U.S. in their motorhome. Don was a fun-loving, easy-going guy who never complained and was very devoted to his wife, Darlene.

Donald is survived by his children, Bonnie (Dave) Baltos and Jeff Zimmerman; granddaughter, Heather (Trent) Wentlandt; great-grandsons, Easton, Bennett and Bryce; brother, Gene Zimmerman; sisters, Joyce Coulter and Elaine Schlenner and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Darlene in 2021 and many brothers and sisters.

Memorial service for Don will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Amy Larson officiating.
