Dorance Gordon Halverson

Dorance Gordon Halverson, 72, of Bay City, Wisconsin, died Saturday, October 27, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his family. Dorance was born on August 16, 1946 in Red Wing to Gordon and Verneal (Voth) Halverson. He grew up on the family farm in Maiden Rock and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1964. He then attended Winona Vo-Tech for an education in welding. On April 20, 1968, Dorance married his best friend, Sandra Sandquist in North Saint Paul. He worked at Meyer Industries as a welder, where he received an award for his craftmanship. He also worked at several other places including Brown Seed Co., Ornamental Iron Railing, Gilbertson's Gas Station, and for Bernie Schroeder. He loved deer hunting and traveling, especially out West to the mountains. He loved the history of the West and all things western. Dorance will be missed for his great sense of humor.
Dorance is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sandy; daughters, Heidi (Jeff) Cavaness of Tomah, WI, Wendy (Rob) Maxwell of Ellsworth; son, Michael (Veronica Barberis) Halverson of Red Wing; grandchildren, Max, Mia and Margaret Cavaness, Tyler (Lexy Mckenzie) and Nick Maxwell, and Abby (Duey Smith) and Tanner Halverson; brothers, Ron (Darlene) Halverson and Neal (Connie) Halverson; sister, Kathleen (Bryan) Thoner; brothers-in-law, Bob (Mary) Sandquist and Dave Sandquist; sister-in-law, Patty (John) Groetsch; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved pet and friend, Luci.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and mother and father in law.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2018 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday.
