Doris Marie Peterson

Doris Marie Peterson, 84, of Red Wing, died Thursday, May 2, 2024 at her home. She was born October 24, 1939 in Bay City, Wis. to Wilbur and Norma (Owens) Gossett. Her family moved to the Diamond Bluff area and she attended rural schools there. On September 30, 1958 she married Earl Peterson in Decorah, Iowa. The couple then bought a home in Red Wing. She worked at the St. James until she had her children. Then she spent her time as homemaker until they were old enough for her to go back to work.  For 28 years she worked at the Red Wing Health Care Center. She retired around 2007. 

The best description of Doris might be that she was quite a character. She had a fantastic sense of humor and was always up for some fun. She enjoyed cheesy movies and shows about ghost and cryptid hunting. She even took her family on her own search for bigfoot. (No word on what she planned to do if they found one.) She also loved to read and make crafts. She could sew and crochet. Doris would relax with pens and adult coloring books. She also kept a journal. 

She is survived by her daughters; Mary of Red Wing and Colleen (Daniel) of Goodhue; 4 grandchildren; Kate (Colton) McQuarrie, Jen Robbins, Joseph (Ranilee Morante Allo) Robbins, and Jay Robbins, all of Goodhue; one great-grandson, Bodean; and two half-sisters, Annetta Smith and Joy Hinton.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl in 2005; her sister, Janice Murray; and her parents. 

Memorial service will be 1 p.m., Tuesday May 14, 2024 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Burnside Cemetery.
