Dorothy “Dottie” Mae Quam, 84, of Red Wing, died Thursday, June 30, 2022 at her home with family by her side. She was born May 19, 1938 in Rock Elm, Wisconsin to Lester and Jessie (Babcock) Pfingsten. Jessie later married George Cederberg and the family moved to Red Wing where Dottie attended school. On June 12, 1954 she married Ronnie Owen and together they had two children. They later divorced.
Dottie was a homemaker for several years before working in housekeeping and hospitality for a number of hotels and motels in the area, including the Super 8 Motel, The Sterling Motel and the Roadway Inn. She also did cleaning and housekeeping for the Seminary Home and Red Wing Laundry. On June 5, 1993 she married Martin Quam at United Lutheran Church.
She was a member of United Lutheran, and the Redman Club. She enjoyed camping, traveling, reading, and spending time with her grandkids. Family was always important to Dottie and she took the time to organize family reunions for many years. She hosted Thanksgiving every year and anyone who needed a place to go was welcome. Dottie and her potato salad will be missed at the weekly family potlucks.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Owen of Cottage Grove; step-son, Dennis (Nancy) Quam of Battle Lake; five grandchildren and step-grandchildren; Eleanor (Nick) Brinsko of Sun Prairie, Michael Peterson of Cottage Grove, Amanda (Moises) Quam of St. Peter, Darren Quam of Battle Lake and Ashley Quam of Battle Lake; 2 great-grandchildren, Peter and Anna; half-brother, William Cederberg; as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, other family and many friends.
She is preceded in death by her son, Ronald “Smokey” Owen, husband, Martin Quam; siblings, Sylvester, Lyle, Waleigh, Delores Bundy and Virginia Born; half-siblings, Robert Cederberg and Darlene Kasper.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at United Lutheran Church with Reverend Justin Boeding officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Online condolence may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
