Dudley Keith Wicklund, 93, of Red Wing, died on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, surrounded by family. He will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many.
Dudley was born on March 22, 1932 in Plum City, Wisconsin to Gladys Wicklund. Gladys passed away when Dudley was a young boy. He was raised by his maternal grandparents Walfred and Agnes Wicklund, along with their children, Clifford, Willard, Buford, Howard, Floyd, and Phyllis. Dudley was baptized and confirmed at Lund Covenant Church in Lund, Wisconsin. He attended school in a 16-person schoolhouse through eighth grade and graduated from Maiden Rock High School.
Dudley met Shirley Gilbertson in high school. Their first date at the roller-skating rink turned into a lifetime of love. They married on October 22, 1955. They had three children Penny, Wendy, and Jerry. He found great pride and enjoyment in his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved attending their sports competitions, playing a few thousand games of cribbage, and catching up on the backyard deck.
Quick with a joke and with a constant twinkle in his eye, Dudley made friends throughout his endeavors. After high school, Dudley served in the army for two years in Korea. He then worked at Durkee Atwood in Red Wing and drove school bus. Throughout his life, Dudley could often be found out in the garden, tinkering around in his shed, and driving his tractors. Friends, family, and neighbors far and wide enjoyed the harvest, particularly his famous tomatoes and sweet corn.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Shirley; his daughter, Penny Fredrickson of Shoreview, MN; son, Jerry Wicklund (Cathy) of Oak Park, IL; grandchildren, Eric Fredrickson (Kelly), Bjorn Fredrickson, Kysa Fredrickson (David), Heidi Fahning (John), and Chad Fahning (Brooke); five great-grandchildren, Ellie Englund, Maximus, Theodore, and Stella Fredrickson, and Evelyn Fahning; Phyllis Halling (née Wicklund); as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Dudley was preceded in death by his daughter, Wendy; as well as Clifford, Willard, Buford, Howard, and Floyd Wicklund.
There will be a private memorial service in the early spring. Arrangements by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing.
