Dwight Dennis Krueger, fondly known as “Pops”, died Monday, May 26, 2025 at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St Mary’s Campus in Rochester, Mn. He was 81 years old. Dwight was born on January 27, 1944, in New Ulm, Minnesota, to Harold and Arlene (Uhlig) Krueger. His family lived in LeSueur and then moved to Blue Earth, MN where he graduated from high school in 1962. He attended the University of MN in Morris before enlisting in the US Army, serving during the Vietnam War Era, where he was primarily stationed in Germany doing helicopter repair work. Following the military, he did his own carpentry/handyman services in Blue Earth Mn. He moved to Hager City, Wisconsin. Dwight owned his own dive shop and taught SCUBA lessons, taking his students out in the area and often to Lake Superior. After closing the dive shop, Dwight worked at Prairie Island Nuclear Plant until he retired at age 71. Dwight loved to hunt. He spent numerous hours every year, building deer stands and preparing the land to attract the “big one”. He shared his love with others whether it be by time sitting in the stand with him or sharing the spoils of his hunt. He took many trips over the years hunting deer, bear, turkey, wild pigs and loved the challenge of it. It was a way of life for him. Many knew Dwight for his helping demeanor—he was very generous and would take care of family and friends as needed. He grew an enormous garden every year and would share the bountiful harvest with anyone and everyone and canned the rest. This year, Dwight was mid-garden prep and planting when his health took a turn. Friends have taken the task of planting, caring for and tending to his garden this year. Dwight’s garden will not go unfinished—it will be a show of love and labor for one of their favorite neighbors. Dwight is survived by 3 sisters, Christine Cummings of Hager City, Marilynn Weise of Mankato and Lynn (Erik) Burgdorf of St. Charles, MO; nieces and nephews, Brett (Sylwia) Cummings, Tracy Andrews, Josh (Joann) Weise, Amy (Norman) Howton, Christian (Cheryl) Nelson, David (Sandy) Anderson, Aja (Martin) Friedrichs, Laura (Wes) Vasquez, Jacob (Amanda) Burgdorf, Noah (Danielle) Burgdorf and Zachariah (Claire) Burgdorf; 25 great-nieces and nephews and an uncle and aunt, Paul and Sandy Krueger of Byron, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, Thomas, sister, Susan Whiting and niece, Megan Nelson.
