Edith "Edie" Hermanson

August 1, 1943 — November 7, 2025

Red Wing

Edith “Edie” Ruby Hermanson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, and friend, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior on November 7, 2025, at the age of 82. After a five-year journey with Alzheimer’s, Edie remained a shining example of grace and faith to all who knew her.

Born on August 1, 1943, in Winona, Minnesota, to Wesley and Ruby Brown, Edie’s life was filled from the beginning with curiosity, compassion, and an eagerness to serve others. She graduated from Winona State University in 1965 with a degree in Education and went on to shape young minds as a teacher in Whitehall, Wisconsin, and later at Jefferson School in Winona. Her patience, warmth, and creativity touched countless students over the years.

It was during one ordinary summer day, while washing her car, that Edie’s life changed forever. A friendly neighbor’s grandson, Ronald “Ron” Hermanson, stopped by to lend a hand. One trip to the root beer stand later, and Edie knew she had found the love of her life. The two married in August 1970, beginning a marriage that spanned more than five decades — full of laughter, devotion, and shared adventure.

They lived in Winona until a new job opportunity for Ron brought the family to Red Wing in 1982. With the move came a new chapter for Edie as well. She opened an in-home daycare, where she lovingly cared for children for more than a decade before returning to her passion for teaching as a substitute teacher.

Together, Ron and Edie built a beautiful life centered around family. Though she grew up an only child, Edie dreamed of a bustling home filled with the sounds of children. She loved to tell how she wanted three kids, Ron wanted two, and “God added them together.” Her heart overflowed with pride for their five children — Sheri, Kim, Mark, TJ, and Christy — and their growing families.

Edie’s love for life extended far beyond her home. She found joy in travel and discovery — from family camping trips across the United States to warm getaways in Florida and lively shows in Branson, Missouri. One of her most treasured experiences was joining a mission trip to Africa, where she shared her faith and compassion with others.

For Edie, faith and family were always at the center. From age 13, she attended Family Camp at Lake Geneva Christian Center in Alexandria, MN — a tradition she lovingly passed down through generations. She also lived out her faith in service — sharing her musical talents by playing piano for over 15 years at church services in the Red Wing Health Center, and leading Operation Christmas Child at New River Assembly of God. Through these ministries, she spread joy, hope, and generosity to countless people around the world.

Edie is survived by her devoted husband, Ron; her children, Sheri (Joe) Lindberg, Kim Winter, Mark (Mary) Hermanson, TJ (DeAnna) Hermanson, and Christy (Nick) Hanson; 16 grandchildren — Thomas Winter, Taylor Wilhelm, Riley and Ayden Titus, Audrey, Teddy, and Daniel Hermanson, Phoenix (Autumn) Ryan, Libertie (Grahm) Johnson, Madisyn (Cameron) Wischer, Jackson, William, and Ellie Hermanson, Colton, Sawyer, and Isabelle Hanson — and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Wesley and Ruby Brown.

Edith’s legacy is one of love, laughter, music, and unwavering faith. She will be remembered for her radiant smile, her servant’s heart, and her devotion to family and friends. Though she has left our sight, her influence and warmth will continue to guide and inspire those she loved most.
