A memorial service will be held for Edmund Zuehlke on Monday March 12th at 11:00 AM at Peace United Church of Christ in Rochester. The Reverend Paul Bauch will officiate, and military honors will be provided by the American Legion and VFW of Rochester immediately following the service. Mr. Zuehlke, 93, of Rochester, died Sunday March 4, 2012 at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Edmund August Zuehlke was born April 27, 1918 in Rochester, the son of Edward and Amanda (nee Heck) Zuehlke. Raised in Rochester, he was a graduate of Rochester High School. As a young man he began working for Olmsted Bank. He was married to Mary Helen Dugan on October 13, 1938. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He returned home and went into business as an owner and operator of Zuehlke and Grieve Accounting in Rochester. In 1978 he moved to Lake City, returning to Rochester in 2003. His wife, Mary, passed away in 1997, and he married Joann Sagehorn on September 13, 2003. She passed away in 2008. Mr. Zuehlke retired in 2010.
He was a member of the Elks for 67 years, the American Legion for 40 years, and was a lifetime member of the VFW. In gratitude for his service to his country, Edmund participated in an ‘honors flight' in 2009.
He is survived by his daughters, Mary Ann Hansen of Wahkon, Minnesota, Virginia (David) Holmes of Rochester, Patricia (Alfred) Zeller of Piscataway, New Jersey, and Margaret ‘Maggie' (Bill) Simons of Saint Paul; sons, Edward ‘Sandy' Zuehlke of Denver, Colorado, and James (Mary) Zuehlke of Wayzata; step-daughters, Mardi Milostan of Rochester, and Mary Durand of Omaha, Nebraska; 13 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two wives; a brother; a grandson, Troy Hansen; and a son-in-law, James Hansen.
Friends may call Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Rochester Chapel, and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
