Elwin Amyx

Hager City

Elwin Eugene Amyx, 93, of Hager City, died Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Preferred Senior Living in Ellsworth.  He was born on May 3, 1930, in Lubbock, TX to Omer and Hazel (Muggleton) Amyx.  He graduated from Poynette High School in 1949, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1955, from University Wisconsin, Stout in Menomonie.  After two years of college he enlisted in the US Army, serving from September 1951through 1953.  He was stationed in South Carolina and Korea during the Korean War.  After his discharge he returned to Stout to finish his final two years.  On December 28, 1957, he was united in marriage to Wanda Staehli at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plum City.  He was a principal at Pepin High School and taught Industrial Arts at East High School in Aurora, IL and Sauk Prairie High School in Prairie du sac, WI.   

Following his retirement, he worked 12 years at Eli Sawmill in Ellsworth.   He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Wing.  He enjoyed watching sports and hunting when he was younger, but most of all playing board games.  

Elwin is survived by three sons, Lee Amyx of Hager City, Lynn (Lisa) Amyx of Lodi, WI and Terry (Candy) Amyx of Bay City; eight grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and two great-great granddaughters.  He was preceded in death by his wife Wanda on August 4, 2022; parents; one sister, Barbara Lothe and two brothers, Glen and Stanley Amyx.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Reverend Peter Sternberg officiating.   Burial will be at the Free Home Cemetery in Plum City.  Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.  Memorials are preferred to St. John’s Lutheran Church or Adoray Hospice.  Arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
