Emmet J. Cushing age 80 of Lake City passed away June 15, 2006 at home after a relatively short illness of cancer. Emmet was born October 11, 1925 in Wilson, WI to James & Esther (Stock) Cushing. He was one of six children and is survived by his wife, Agnes, brother Louis of Red Wing, many nieces and nephews and extended family members. He was preceded in death by two wives Mabel Carter Cushing of Red Wing 1947 to 1994; and Berle Swanson Cushing of Red Wing 1996 to 1999. He served in the Navy during WW II from 1943 to 1946. He took part in the land based occupation of Japan at the end of the War. Emmet served as President and Business Agent for the St. Paul and Minneapolis Transit Union. He also served as Past Commissioner of Economic Security Department for the state of Minnesota. He had a long life interest in golf, flying, fishing and reading. He returned to Lake City in 1983 and always thought it was the most beautiful place in the world. He loved people and had a long and happy life. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday June 24, 2006 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake City at 11:00 a.m. with father James Russell officiating.
