Emmett Lee Dissell, age 90, of Hibbing, formerly of Red Wing, died Saturday at Greenview Residence in Hibbing. He was born on November 18, 1915, in Aurora, Illinois, the son of Alexander and Jennie (Plante) Dissell. He attended Aurora High School and served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946, during World War II in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Hector. He married Astrid ?Austy? Evald on June 1, 1940, in Aurora. He worked for the Aurora Foundry, Ellsworth Wisconsin CCC Camp, CB&Q Railroad, Red Wing Pottery for fifteen years, and then as a counselor for the Minnesota State Training School for Boys for twenty-three years, retiring in 1978. He also drove school bus for Lee Lines and delivered appliances for Gambles. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Red Wing, was an avid bowler and golfer, and enjoyed all sports, fishing and hunting. His wife died on May 17, 2005 and he has lived in Hibbing for the past year. Survivors include two sons, Pastor Bruce (Marilyn) Dissell of Hibbing and Robert (Shirley) Dissell of Red Wing; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lillian Horlock of Sun City, Ariz., Audrey Davis of Glendale, Ariz., Alvera Truett of Clarksville, Ind., and Diana Lokey of Sheridan, Ill. Preceding him in death were his parents, Alexander and Jennie Dissell; his wife; three grandchildren, Jennifer Dissell, Angela Dissell and Patrick Dissell; four brothers, Lawrence, Oliver, Edward and Frederick Dissell; and four sisters, Almeda Loehr, Irene Konrad, Florence Richardson and Louise Dissell.Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, at First Lutheran Church, Red Wing, with Reverend Carroll Marohl officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of services Wednesday at the church. Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Daniel and Maria Dissell, Marc Dissell and Jennifer Briest, Mollee and Peter Enko, Gloria and Camilo Carreon, and Holly and Abraham Benson. Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel is handling arrangements.
