Fay Ann (Knudsen) Kells

Fay Ann Kells, 74, of Red Wing, died Saturday, July 1, 2023 at her home after a lengthy battle with dementia.  She was born June 13, 1949 in Red Wing, to Ken and Eleanor (Baez) Knudsen. She graduated from Red Wing Central High School, class of 1967. On January 10, 1967 she married Dennis Kells and the couple made their home in Red Wing where they raised their family.

Fay owned a small craft store in the Red Wing Pottery building, worked as a reading aide at Burnside School, and was blessed to have Little Dear’s Day Care for over three decades. One of her proudest moments came in 1998 when she was recognized as Provider of the Year.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and oversaw the nursery - Fay loved children of all ages but especially the babies. She enjoyed collecting Red Wing Pottery and was a member of the Red Wing Collector’s Society.  She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan, as well as enjoyed her favorite game shows, being with her grandbabies, and baking her signature chocolate chip cookies.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Dennis; children, Dion (Connie) Kells, Corinna Kells, and Jennifer (Zak) Peterson; 6 grandchildren, Alexis Martin, Mitchell Kells, Shelby Miller, Brian Linder, Brandon Peterson, and Ella Peterson; 2 great-grandchildren, Brantley and Aiden; 5 siblings, Bonnie Gryniewski, Terry Skorude, Dennis Knudsen, Kevin (Vickie) Knudsen and Perry Knudsen; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and a grandson, Alex Peterson

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Friday, July 7th, 2023 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.  Memorial service will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Saturday, July 8, 2023 with Reverend William Klavetter officiating: additional visitation @ 12:00, service begins at 1 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
