Florence Lyons

Florence Lyons, 96, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2024 at the Elysian Senior Home in Lake City, MN.

Florence was born on July 12, 1927 in Waterville, MN to Charles & Charlotte (Dawald) Backman. She grew up in a large family, sixth of seven children. Florence graduated from Waterville High School in 1945, and went on to graduate from the Rochester Kahler School of Nursing in 1950. She was a nurse her entire career, providing bedside and clinical nursing care to thousands of patients. She retired from Mayo in 1989.

Florence married Howard Lyons on June 14, 1952 in Waterville, MN. They lived in Glenville, MN, New Richland, MN, Kasson, MN, and eventually retired in Lake City, MN. Florence loved Lake City, and was active in many civic organizations, namely First Lutheran Church, the Lake City Food Shelf, and the Lake City Hospice program.

Florence is survived by two sons, David (Julie) Lyons of Chanhassen, MN, and Robert Lyons of Farmington, MN; two daughters, Carol (Brad) Timmerman) of Rochester, MN, and Kay (Jeff) Klein of Eyota; six grandchildren; Lee (Liz) Timmerman, Lauren (Tyler) Kostel, Zach (Kim) Klein, and Aly (Kyle) Sill, all of Rochester, MN, Kelsey (Steve) Grossman of Lonsdale, MN, and Mackenzie Lyons of Lakeville, MN, and 10 great grandchildren.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Mary Haines; her parents, her siblings, relatives, and many close friends.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, July 1st, 2024, 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service at First Lutheran Church in Lake City with Pastor Paul Miller officiating.
