Frederick Hoyer

July 29, 1958 — May 5, 2024

Frederick "Fred" John Hoyer, 65, of Ellsworth, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family, following a yearlong battle with cancer. Fred was born on July 29, 1958, in Lake City, Minnesota to Albert and Barb (Reynolds) Hoyer. He graduated in 1977 from Lake City High School. For many years he was in partnership with his cousin and brother at Hoyer Brothers Well Drilling. On August 27, 1977, he was united in marriage to Mary Young and they lived in rural Ellsworth. Fred was an avid hunter and fisherman with many of those excursions going to Montana. In his younger years he worked at a horse ranch near Grand Marias giving guided tours. A pastime of his was watching western TV shows and movies. His Oliver tractor and International 460, which he restored, was his pride and joy. Fred worked hard and played hard, but most of all spending time with his family and friends was what he enjoyed the most. He will be missed by all who know him.

Fred is survived by his loving wife, Mary, of 46 years; three sons, Travis (Amy) Hoyer of Ellsworth, Justin (Brooke) Hoyer of Bay City, and Jason (Ali) Hoyer of Ellsworth; four grandchildren, Clint, Vanna, Ila and Elizabeth Hoyer; two brothers, Chris (Judy) Hoyer of Lake City and Alan (Lori) Hoyer of Bay City and one sister, Darcy (Boone) Peterson of Ellsworth along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Barb Hoyer; grandparents, Wilbur and Mae Reynolds and Burt and Louise Hoyer and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Howard and Florence Young.
