Gary R. Carlson

Gary Robert Carlson, 78, of Red Wing, beloved husband and best father in the world, died Sunday, December 14, 2025, at Mayo Clinic Health System, St. Marys Campus. He was born on July 1, 1947, in St. Paul, MN to Alfred and Doris (Zietlow) Carlson. He grew up in Red Wing and graduated from Red Wing Central High School. Gary furthered his education at the St. Paul Vo-Tech for Auto Body. Gary worked in the construction business working for several construction companies, including Orrin Thompson Co., Arnie Kann Co. and Siewert Construction. He finished his career working for Goodhue County in the maintenance department.

Gary served in the National Guard and was a member of the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54. He enjoyed fishing, riding side by side and tinkering in his garage. Most of all he looked forward to spending time with Cindy and Nick.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Cindy of 46 years; one son, Nick of Red Wing; sisters and brothers-in-law, Beverly Mattson, Don (Rhonda) Johnson of Hager City and Lorraine Haney of St. Paul; nieces and nephews, Stacy Mattson, Jessica (Adam) Stemen, Christine Johnson and Will Gongoll. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside service will be at a later date at the Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing. Arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
