Georgene A. (Hielscher) Benson

Georgene Ann Benson, 76, of Red Wing, died Thursday, January 4, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on December 3, 1947, in Red Wing to George and Vera (Dick) Hielscher.  She attended Red Wing Schools graduating from Central High School in 1966.  On January 20, 1968, she was united in marriage to William A. Benson.  Over the years she was employed at First State Bank, Riedell Shoes, McDonalds and before retirement worked as a cook at Potter Ridge for a number of years.  She was a faithful member of the Church of St. Joseph where she was a volunteer for Faith Formation teaching 2nd graders for many years.  Her passion was traveling out West, where she enjoyed elk hunting, trout fishing and riding her UTV.  At home she and her family had a hobby farm where they raised ducks, geese, goats, cows and many chickens.  Fishing at Dead Lake was a favorite along with being an avid photographer, taking photos of almost anything.  Most of all she looked forward to being with her family and friends.

Georgene is survived by her husband, William of 56 years; three children, Bobbie Benson of Red Wing, Loren (Kathleen) Benson of Red Wing and Chris (Naomi) Benson of Aurora, CO; eight grandchildren; one sister, Katie (Daryl) Kuhl of Red Wing; nieces and nephews, Nicholas, Nicole, Andy, Jennifer, Angie and Jessie; sisters-in-law, Sheila (Gary) Timm of Cottage Grove and Pam Benson of Faribault.  She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Vera (Dick) Hielscher; infant daughter; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Harold and Lorraine Benson and one brother-in-law, Ray Benson.

Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the Church of St. Joseph.  Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church one hour prior to the Mass.
