Gerald “Sid” Frederick Lindstrom, 95, of Red Wing, died Saturday, September 13, 2025, at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems – Red Wing Campus. He was born on November 29, 1929, in Red Wing to Sidney and Ellen (Appenzeller) Lindstrom. He graduated form Red Wing High School in 1949. He then served in the US Air Force from 1949 to 1952 during the Korean Conflict. On June 26, 1954, he was united in marriage to Lynette Hallstrom. They moved to Fullerton, CA before returning to the Midwest and settling in Cedar Rapids, IA. They then returned to Red Wing where Sid worked many years for the Red Wing Shoe Company, as a driver and in the warehouse. He was a faithful member of the Church of St. Joseph, Burnson-Lillyblad VFW Post #1218 and Red Wing BPOE Elks #845.
Sid’s passion was sports, especially baseball. He lettered in football, basketball, track and baseball all in one year during high school. He was a coach, referee and umpire mostly for the youth sports programs in the Red Wing Area. He managed the VFW softball team for many years and was an umpire for the Red Wing Aces. Sid founded the church softball league in 1967. In 2007, he was inducted into the Red Wing Baseball Hall of Fame.
Since 1992, he and Lynette spent many winters in warmer climates eventually settling in Alamo, Texas at Alamo Paradise Acres. The made many friends and enjoyed the opportunity to teach line dancing.
Sid is survived by two daughters, Sheree (Craig) Frazier of Red Wing and Jerilyn (Kevin) Coplan of Hudson, WI; three granddaughters, Brandi Rogers, Briana (Jamie) Tresidder and Kassidy (Marcus) Dodge; five great grandchildren, Nathan, Halle, Alana, Lyla and Scottie; one sister, Lois Anderson of Palm Desert, California; one brother, Richard “Buzz” Lindstrom of Red Wing along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Lynette in 2020; an infant son, Alan; son, Darrell; infant grandson, Gerald; three brothers, John, Raymond and Franklin “Putter” Lindstrom and two sisters, Joanne Lindstrom and Mary Ellen Blim.
Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Brandon Theisen presiding. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Legion prayer service on Tuesday, September 23, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church one prior to the Mass. Memorials are preferred to the Church of St. Joseph or the Red Wing Amateur Baseball Association.
