Guy Bradford Heins, age 77, of Red Wing died Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at Elysian Fields of Red Wing with his family by his side after a brief battle with cancer. He was born February 19, 1949 in Red Wing to Donald and Elizabeth “Betty” (Santelman) Heins. He graduated in 1967 from Lincoln High School in Lake City.

Following graduation, Guy began working at Red Wing Shoe, where he worked for 33 years, retiring in 2000. At that time, he turned his part-time gig driving semi into a full-time job for Foodliner Trucking. He continued driving until officially retiring in 2015.

Throughout his entire life Guy farmed on Hill Avenue. He started on the family farm and eventually had his own farm just a mile up the road. Farming was in his blood, and he continued working the land until the very end. He loved being outdoors, whether hunting, watching sporting events and later in life mowing the lawn, watching hummingbirds or simply watching the corn grow.

On June 12, 1976 he married Virginia “Ginny” Strauss. The two were introduced by mutual coworkers and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Together Guy and Ginny had three children, Betsy, Sharon and Brad. Guy loved being a grandpa to his three grandsons, Joe, Drew and Patrick. Family was very important to Guy; he attended as many of his grandsons’ activities as he possibly could.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Virginia “Ginny”; children, Elizabeth “Betsy” (Andy) Hines, Sharon (Matt) Moritz, and Guy Bradford “Brad” Heins Jr.; grandchildren, Joe, Drew, and Patrick Hines; step grandchild, Austin Hines; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Tom; father and mother-in-law, Clem and Annetta Strauss; sister-in-law, Mary King; and several aunts and uncles.

A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Heins farm 32244 Hill Ave, Red Wing, MN 55066.
