Harold Albert Buck, “Wahinkpe Gluha Omani Na Gli”, of Mamaroneck, New York and formerly of Prairie Island, died Saturday, August 5, 2023, at his home. He was born on January 22, 1951, in Welch, Minnesota to Edwin, Sr. and Clara (Johnson) Buck. He graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1971, and then served in the US Marine Corps and was honorably discharged on March 8, 1972. In March of 2003 he was united in marriage to Julie Reed in New York. While living at Prairie Island he worked for Island Bingo and at Knutson Construction. He loved his Dakota heritage and religion and he made Gods Eye Necklaces. He enjoyed his dog, Potato, Cockatoo, Pretty Girl, traveling and being with his family and friends. He was the family jokester.
Harold is survived by his wife, Julie Reed Buck; one daughter, Winona Buck; step-daughter, Tiffany Reed; siblings, Delores Buck, Posie Johnson, Deb White and Johnny Johnson along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Freeman Johnson, Richard “Butch” Buck and Edwin Buck, Jr.; one sister, Lucy Gelhar and step-son, Anthony Reed.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 14, 2023, at the Prairie Island Community Center. Visitation will begin after 4 p.m. Saturday, August 12, 2023 at the Community Center and continue until the time of the service on Monday. Burial will be in the Prairie Island Community Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
