Hedwig “Hedy” Teresa Keller, 97, of Red Wing, died Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Valentines Assisted Living. She was born September 12, 1926 in Minneapolis to Ludwig and Mary (Wrzos) Ploszay. At age 2 the family moved to a farm in Amery, Wisc. and Hedy graduate from Amery High School. She then moved to Saint Paul and lived with her sister while she worked on several assembly lines and for the war production at Brown & Bigelow. She married Vernon Keller on July 8, 1950 and together they raised 6 children. They farmed in Rosemount until 1966 when they moved to Vasa Township. They farmed in Vasa until 1992. Vernon passed away in December of 2011.
Hedy was an active member of the Church of St. Joseph where she was involved in many aspects of church life. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary, a member of a card club and she bowled on a league for many years. She could play the harmonic and concertina and she loved polka music. She was always a wonderful host, welcoming people into her home and making sure no one left her house without a cookie and something to drink. Most of all, she was proud of and loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her 6 children; James (Vernie) Keller, Gregory Keller, Bernard (Debbra) Keller, Jeffrey (Linda) Keller, Jean (Gregg) Diercks, all of Red Wing and Deborah (John) Althaus of Hager City, Wisc.; 8 grandchildren, Joshua (Angela) Knutson, Zachary (Amanda) Keller, Matthew (Carrie Bauer) Keller, Kendra (Jon Smith) Keller, Angela (Eddie) Buell, Melissa (Matthew) Berghammer, Tyler (Jen Subra) Diercks, and Emily (Mark) Hubbard; 2 step-grandchildren, Jeff and Kristine Harden; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband; 8 siblings, Frank, Anthony, Steve, Lawrence, Agnes, Helen, Anne, and Veronica; and her parents.
Mass of Resurrection will be 11 a.m., Saturday, June 8, 2024 at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Brandon Theisen presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the church, Leo C. Peterson American Legion Auxiliary, or the Flower Basket Fund.Saturday, June 8, 2024
